I was fortunate to be born to parents who had good eating habits. All of that changed when I got married and started cooking delicious meals for my husband. I added lots of butter and sugar, and of course we had to have desserts and cakes. Having a beautiful baby added to a curvy body. I become desponded and ate very little during the day and binged at night. I was on a roller coaster, I was tired all the time, and I did not know how to get off. Most of the time I did not have the energy to exercise, and with a busy schedule it became virtually impossible to do the things I needed to. I could no longer wear the clothes I loved that made me feel sexy and beautiful. I desperately wanted to regain my health and my lean body.

The shock of being diagnosed with diabetes changed my life for the better. Something so devastating can have the right effect on you, if you allow yourself to see that change could be positive. I had to learn how to change my eating plan to become healthier. Although the diets the dietitians provided me with, did not work for me, I never gave up. I kept searching for the solution to the eating style that would once again put my health in a better position. It was not easy at first, but by trial and error, I learnt what to eat to keep my sugar levels form soaring and dipping. Today I am proud to say that I know what to eat to be healthy, energetic and happy. It is within reach of each one of us, with the right system, right support and the right accountability.

There are many little things one can do to put a positive spin on your life. Drinking water is very simple, yet easy to do or NOT to do. I have learnt what helps me remember to drink water. Sleeping is another very important aspect of our life. Sleeping at least 7-9 hours a night affects our interaction with the important people in our life at home, at work, and in our social life. Choosing movements that I enjoy revs up my metabolism, clears my skin, gives me energy, and gives me loads of fun times, e.g. a walk in the park or on the beach, or a dance class. I love cooking and eating, like anybody else. I choose to enjoy the foods that give me energy and that is healthy for me, and I do what it takes to make it delicious and sumptuous, so that I can still enjoy every meal.
